Bill Shatz is a highly regarded innovator in the sport of lacrosse; an architect of some of the most creative training and competitive concepts developed in the sport; an educator of student-athletes at virtually every level; a successful coach leading nationally ranked lacrosse programs; and a recognized lacrosse business leader. Bill also is on the staff of the nationally ranked University of Tampa Men’s Varsity Lacrosse Program as an Assistant Coach, where he works closely with training and developing offensive players and implementing creative game strategies and tactics.
Engineering a number of creative concepts — including the lacrosse system that integrates the box and field versions of the sport called “DoubleCrosse” — he leveraged these concepts by co-founding the American Indoor Lacrosse Association, serving as the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of this international organization with the mission of extending the National Lacrosse League (NLL)-style indoor lacrosse game throughout the United States and globally.
Bill is renowned as the innovator behind the successful lacrosse program at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, where his system and style of play achieved national rankings and universal recognition as one of the best high school prep lacrosse programs in the world. His team was nationally ranked in the Top 10 for five consecutive years and he possessed one of the highest coaching win/loss percentages nationally, with his 90% winning percentage during his tenure. More than 70% of the student-athletes in his programs have gone on to play Division I lacrosse and he has trained and developed more than 40 US Lacrosse High School All-Americans, 22 US Lacrosse High School Academic All-Americans, five UnderArmour All-Americans, six United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assn. (USILA) collegiate All-Americans and four athletes have competed for the national teams of their respective countries.
Bill was inducted as a member of the USA Lacrosse Florida Hall of Fame in 2018 and has served USA Lacrosse in a variety of roles including appointments to the USA Lacrosse Selector Staff of the 2012 World Championship U.S. National Men's U-19 team; High School Area Chairman for the USA Lacrosse-Florida Chapter; and Regional Vice-President of the USA Lacrosse-Florida Chapter in 2019.
A Long Island native, Bill led his high school teams in lacrosse he also was a highly regarded hockey player, two-year captain, and two-time All-County selection. After high school, he was a four-year starter at attack for the Ithaca College lacrosse team, where he graduated as one of the top-10 all-time scorers in school history.
Bill has a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration from the Ithaca College School of Allied Health Professions and a Master of Public Health degree in Hospital Administration from the Yale University School of Medicine.
