4v4 Play

Known as SmallBall, the format is a 4v4 small-sided “half-court” game developed specifically to improve the skill of its participants regardless of age level (youth, adolescent, high school, college, adult), gender (Boy’s, Girl’s), and/or competency (beginner, intermediate-advanced, professional);

6v6 Play

Known as Sixes, this 6v6 format is based on the Olympic vision of World Lacrosse and is sanctioned by USA Lacrosse. Sixes is a hybrid between traditional field and box lacrosse with 6 players a side on the field.

SmallBall (4v4) –

  • Field Size: Using a standard men’s/boy’s lacrosse field, the game is played within the boundaries of the restraining box.
  • A standard 6×6 lacrosse goal is used. A blocker is attached to the goal to reinforce shooting accuracy and refine shooting solutions.
  • Number of Players on the Field of Play per Team: Each team will have four players on the field. The team on defense will place their goalie in the net.
  • Stick Size: Short sticks (40”- 42”) and Goalie sticks only.
  • Game Time: Games start and stop on a central horn. Each game is 12-minutes in duration with a running time clock. No timeouts.
  • Goalie Play: Each team assigns one goalie. Goalies rotate in and out of the cage when ball possession exchanges from offense to defense
  • Scoring: One 1-Point for each goal scored. Games can end in a tie
  • Substitution: No horns. The player substitution will be on the “fly”. Players must enter and exit the playing field through the designated box.
  • Games do not require referees to officiate as players apply the rules, self-regulate, and productively resolve disputes, using fairness, character, honesty, and integrity to settle all matters. Fields/games will be monitored by Field Managers.
  • SmallBall is a non-contact game. There is no aggressive, intentional physical contact, stick checks, or hand checks permitted. Safety is a paramount priority.
  • The game is designed so that equipment is not required and, in fact, discouraged from the use by participants. Mouthguards are required. Basic eye protection and light “golf” gloves may be used. A “soft” lacrosse-style ball is the official ball of the game.
  • SmallBall is primarily a passing game, so movement on- and off-ball is emphasized. Box-style principles are strongly encouraged. Specific skills such as passing/catching; rapid ball movement; two-man games; communication; and faking are considered requisite. Dodging and single-player ball dominance is reduced by rule.

Sixes (6v6)
